'Come Celebrate 150 Years of Being Canada's Caretakers' School Banner

Dear Educators,

The Education Committee would like to invite you to participate and have your school represented at the 2017 International Plowing Match & Rural Expo (IPM).

We encourage each school in Huron and Perth Counties to create a banner celebrating the theme, “Come Celebrate 150 years of being Canada’s Caretakers”. The banner can be completed by an individual, small group, class or the entire school.

We are sending the banner material to your school, in care of the lead teacher.

You can choose any media. Tempura paint works fine on the fabric. If the paint is thick, you may need something like cardboard placed under to protect the surface. Fabric paint from a Dollar Store will also work.

The banner material has been generously donated to our committee by Dorothy Cummings from Barmy Tech in Walton.

All collected banners will be displayed in the education area during the Match. This is a great opportunity for schools in Huron and Perth County to showcase their students’ talents and learning. This is an exhibition only. Be creative, have fun and please check out all of the students’ efforts when you visit the IPM 2017 from September 19th to 23rd.

Please return your banner by June 16th to the board office by courier.

For more information, please contact the Education Committee at educationipm2017@gmail.com.

We very much look forward to your participation at the IPM 2017!

You are invited to join us for the 2017 IPM Beautification Banquet - August 31

IPM 2017 Huron County Barn Quilt Trail

In preparation for hosting the 100th IPM in Canada’s 150th Birthday year, homeowners throughout Huron County have been creating and hanging barn quilts as part of the IPM beautification process. The Barn Quilts are now hung for all to see.

Wow! This exciting venture has created 150 plus Barn Quilts...thank you, thank you, thank you!

In honour of this accomplishment, we are creating a IPM Barn Quilt Trail book that will be launched at the Beautification Banquet on August 31 in Seaforth, then after that it will be available at the IPM 2017 Headquarters (42653 Blyth Rd, Walton. Hours: Monday to Friday - 10 am to 4 pm. 519-606-2017). The book may also be purchased at the Souvenir Tent at IPM 2017. The price of the IPM Barn Quilt Trail book is being finalized and will be posted soon.

On August 19-20, at the Quilt Show, a Barn Quilt Trail map will be available for you to take, and there will be a picture display of the Barn Quilts so you can choose and vote for your Fan Favourite. This will be the only time to vote, so please make sure you come out and vote for your Fan Favourite!

Join us at the Beautification Banquet  on August 31 to see who won the two barn quilt draw prizes ($750 for the 8ft x 8ft category and $150 for the 4ft x 4ft  category) and for the launch of the IPM Barn Quilt Trail book. We will also announce who won the communities’ Fan Favourite barn quilt vote ($250 prize). The cash prizes will be presented by Tim and Donna Prior, of Brussels Agri Services and Cowboy Loft in Brussels.

A Barn Quilt Trail map will soon be added to this web page for you to print off and take on your Barn Quilt journey. Please check back before the Quilt Show.

Didn’t make it in time for the IPM Barn Quilt Trail?...no worries! Keep creating and hanging Barn Quilts...the Huron County Barn Quilt Trail will continue to grow and decorate the country side. You can register your Barn Quilt (must be 8ft x 8ft and visible to the road as well) by emailing Vicky Morrison at grassrootsrr@gmail.com  or calling 519 525-3937 (she will guide you through the process and answer any questions you might have). Vicky will also be registering your Barn Quilt on the Ontario Barn Quilt Trail – www.barnquilttrails.ca.

Many thanks to everyone who helped to make this happen, including all the awesome Barn Quilters. The Barn Quilt Trail will now be a treasured memory of the IPM 2017 and the beauty of Huron County
