School Program

The IPM is a showcase of agricultural excellence that aims to teach about agricultural practice and allow students a closer look at farming in its many forms. This year's theme is A Fresh Taste of Farming. The experience promises to be interactive and informative, and presenters will engage students of all ages throughout their day at the Match.

Along with the education tents, students and staff will have the opportunity to:

  • explore displays and demonstrations of various farm equipment
  • learn about the heritage and history of Ontario agriculture
  • enjoy live performances by various entertainers, including Daniel Steep, Agri-Magic shows twice daily

The IPM is host to 8,000 to 12,000 students over the course of the Match. To reserve your preferred date, please complete the registration form available here by September 13. Confirmation will begin in September.



The IPM 2016 Beautification Contest has officially launched!

From now until September 1, create a display utilizing a variety of agricultural products and/or farm implements to show your support for the 2016 IPM.

All displays must promote the theme of “A Fresh Taste of Farming”. Judging will be based on 3 categories:
1) Creativity/originality
2) Quality of construction
3) Overall positive promotion of the IPM and Wellington County.

Two categories are available for entry, based on the size of the display. The Rural category must be approximately 12’ x 12’. The Urban category must be approximately 8’ x 8’.

Prizes for both the Urban and Rural categories are as follows:

  • 1st prize - $300
  • 2nd prize - $200
  • 3rd prize - $100

Displays must be completed by September 1, 2016, and remain in place until September 24, 2016. To be considered, a photo must be submitted to beautification@ipm2016.com before September 6, 2016.

The first 100 people to submit a photo of their display will receive 2 general admission passes to the IPM!

The 2016 Quilt Raffle is Launched!Quilt Raffle Prizes

We’re pleased to announce that the raffle is now officially launched. IPM host farmers Anne and Earl Schneider purchased the first tickets.

The prizes are:

  • 1st Ticket Drawn: Thirty Shades of Green IPM Challenge Quilt (estimated value $1500)

  • 2nd Ticket Drawn: Bernina 330 Sewing Machine, donated by Bernina Canada (retail value $1500)

  • 3rd Ticket Drawn: Thirty More Shades of Green IPM Challenge Quilt (estimated value $1200)

These are truly spectacular prizes. Each of the prize quilts has been made from 30 raffle challenge blocks (see below) and is a unique and stunning keepsake from the 2016 Wellington County IPM.

The draw will be held as part of the IPM 2016 Closing Ceremonies on the afternoon of Saturday, September 24 (at approximately 4 pm).

The IPM 2016 Quilt Block Challenge quilts will be on display:

  • at "The Fresh Taste of Quilting" Quilt Show and Competition at the Harriston Curling Club from August 19 (10 am to 6 pm) and August 20 (10 am to 4 pm), 2016. Admission is $7. Tickets available at the door.
  • in the Quilt Tent at the 2016 International Plowing Match and Rural Expo from September 20 - 24               

Winners Announced for the IPM 2016 Raffle Quilt Block Challenge:
Thirty Shades of Green

Judging for the raffle quilt block challenge, an IPM tradition, took place December 4, 2015. There were 80 individual quilt blocks submitted for judging.The judges determined the top three blocks based on criteria such as workmanship, creativity and incorporation of the theme. This year's challenge had a fresh, new approach. The theme was "Thirty Shades of Green" and entries were small, fully quilted blocks, each with a noticeable amount of green.

The IPM 2016 Quilt Committee is pleased to announce the winners.

3rd Place - Robin Bogaert of Waterloo
