Come and Take an Historic Walk Through Our Land!

By Anne Arksey, Education Chairperson

This is what everyone will be experiencing this year when they come to the Education Section of the International Plowing Match and Rural Expo 2014…

  • We will be starting off with the First Nations and the Metis Nation, followed by a wonderful display of the War of 1812 and pioneer life.  SUMAC, which represents the fifteen major museums in Simcoe County are pleased to present history in a unique way.

  • This will be followed by an interactive display called “Equimania”, which is all about horses.   Everyone will definitely learn something new as they walk through this very detailed presentation.
  • Did you realize this is the 100th anniversary of World War I?   Base Borden will be bringing excitement to the area so make sure you ask them about the military!
  • Next comes our present day plants and animals…Don’t miss out on our Grain Farmers of Ontario Grain Discovery Zone!   Our Animal Tent is housing the “Farm Comes to Town” program, which always delights everyone through their many agricultural demonstrations.   See horseshoeing, goat milking, and even sheep shearing.
  • Finally we make our way to the Future Tent where you can learn about conservation, 4-H, the Fur Traders, and much more.
  • Would you like to read a book about fun and agriculture?   See our library display!
  • If you’re feeling like you have a lot of energy, Stanley Speed will tell you how fast you run!   All of these events can be reported in our “Scoop Troop” bus which gives educational newspapers to our youth.

These are just a few of the things you will find in the Education Area of the International Plowing Match.  Don’t forget to print off a copy of our Scavenger Hunt from the website.  Gather all your points and go to the prize table for your reward.   If you have children 6 years of age and under, you may want them to explore our Little Sprouts tent which has lots of activities for the young at heart.

There is something for every age in our Education Area!
