2009 Temiskaming International Plowing Match celebrates official Launch |
Temiskaming District – June 26, 2007 -- The official launch and
unveiling of billboards for the 2009 Temiskaming International Plowing
Match and Rural Expo was held today on the host farm of Ferme Rivadale
Ltee in Earlton.
Joining the 2009 Temiskaming IPM Board and Committees were a variety of
community supporters, funding partners and corporate sponsors. Members
of the Ontario Plowmen’s Association were also on hand to participate in
the local celebration. “The IPM and Rural Expo is the largest event ever
staged in the Temiskaming District, with more than 70,000 people
expected. The economic impact on the local economy is anticipated to be
over $20 million,” said Sean Mackey, Marketing Chair for the 2009
Temiskaming IPM. After unveiling the launch signs the crowd of over 200
enjoyed a lunch afterward of regional foods, featuring Northern Ontario
Golden Beef and Thornloe Cheese.
Excitement is building for the International Plowing Match and Rural
Expo 2009, which will take place from Tuesday, September 22 to Saturday,
September 26, 2009 at Earlton, just north of the City of Temiskaming
Shores in the center of the Temiskaming District. Approximately 1400
dedicated and enthusiastic community volunteers are involved in the
preparation, planning, and organization of the event which will showcase
agriculture and rural living in Ontario, and highlight the past, present
and future. Unique to the 2009 Temiskaming IPM will be the inclusion of
forestry and mining in the exhibits and education, providing for a truly
realistic picture of northern life.
The tented city will offer commercial, cultural and educational
exhibits, antique machinery, demonstrations, an artisan marketplace,
food, horse shows, live entertainment, the Queen of the Furrow
competition and more. All combine to showcase and celebrate the
importance of agriculture in our lives. Visitors will discover what the
northeast has to offer - the world of agriculture, forestry and mining
will be profiled form the education and enjoyment of all who visit.
