The BMO Ontario Farm Family Awards formally recognize farm families for their dedication to Ontario’s agriculture sector,
and the rural way of life.

2022 BMO Farm Family Awards

This year’s International Plowing Match & Rural Expo (IPM), taking place in Kemptville, is a special one for the BMO Ontario Farm Family Awards – it’s their 10th anniversary. This year, BMO will once again team up with the Ontario Plowmen’s Association (OPA) to acknowledge 13 new families for their involvement in their communities, land stewardship, sustainability, and continually evolving farm management practices.

“For many years, BMO has been a proud supporter of the Canadian agriculture community and the BMO Farm Family Awards,” says Senior Vice-President & National Head Agriculture, BMO, Lynda Taylor. “It is evident that all of the families recognized share the same passion, strong business acumen and build on generational knowledge which allows agricultural communities across the country to thrive.”

Awards are handed out to hard-working families each year. The families are nominated by their friends, family, or other members of the community online and are chosen by an anonymous panel of five judges. This panel is a mixture of BMO and OPA representatives, with another agricultural industry leader. “Ontario’s farm families contribute to their community and to the province in so many significant ways,” says Cathy Lasby, Executive Director of the OPA. “They uphold the traditions of the past while strengthening Ontario’s economic growth. It is truly an honour to recognize them.”

Since 2012, 83 families have been honoured since the BMO Farm Family Awards began. Honourees get to enjoy a day at the IPM with a complimentary lunch. They also receive a family photo shoot and a commemorative sign to hang on their farm gate. Lasby says the future of the program looks bright. “We look forward to a long-term partnership with BMO to continue honouring our outstanding Farm Families.” Recipients of the 2020-2021 BMO Ontario Farm Family Awards will be celebrated during the International Plowing Match and Rural which will run from Sept. 20 to 24 in Kemptville (North Grenville).
