Dear Members of the community,
Thank you for taking the time to review the 2019 International Plowing Match Beautification Committee’s projects. Although our committee’s role in the IPM is to beautify and decorate West Nipissing, we will also be reaching out to surrounding communities to encourage them to be a part of this event. We are currently looking for volunteers to help with:
These are green and purple fabric triangles that are attached to a long ribbon. The flag lines consist of five triangles per strand and will measure approximately 6’ in length. These are comparable to the flag type banners or garlands that are often hung as decorations for birthday parties. We are asking volunteers to cut and sew the fabric triangles (these are double sided) as well as assemble them.
We will be encouraging residents and businesses throughout West Nipissing and surrounding area to decorate their properties with scarecrows. Volunteers will help make scarecrows to be used throughout the area as well as help host scarecrow making workshops in different communities. We are also looking for volunteers to help decorate the main streets of Sturgeon Falls and Verner with scarecrows.
Note: we are also looking for used clean clothing to dress the scarecrows in.
We are currently looking for a team leader from Sturgeon Falls, Cache Bay, Monetville, Noelville, Alban, River Valley and Garden Village. At this time we have leaders for Verner, Field, Lavigne and Warren. Our goal is to create a scarecrow based display in each town that showcases the history and unique makeup of each of the communities. Example: Verner’s display will feature scarecrows that are using old farm equipment while Field’s scarecrows will be will be staged as loggers. Each town leader will be responsible for pulling together a group of volunteers to help create their display as well as spread the word for the beautification committee’s projects.
PAINTED BARN QUILTS
This is a project that brings quilters, painters and farmers together. Barn quilts consist of two 4×8 foot pieces of sign aluminum that, once painted, are framed together to create an 8×8 foot quilt or block. Once completed the quilt/block will be mounted on local barns creating a scenic trail for visitors to follow. We need volunteers to help design the quilt/block, paint, and frame it. Our hopes are that with this trail we can make it onto http://www.barnquilttrails.ca/ which would showcase our trail and also help drive tourism in West Nipissing. Visit the website link listed above for information on other trails and for tips on creating the quilt/block.
We will also be having a beautification contest that will encourage residents and buisnesses in West Nipissing and surrounding area to beautify and decorate their property for the IPM. Contest details and application forms will be sent out at a later date.
Any help is greatly appreciated. We are really hoping that West Nipissing as a whole can pull together and showcase our community!
Thank you for your time,
