Opening day for the 2019 International Plowing Match & Rural Expo is a big one. Be sure to take in the Opening Day Parade, brought to you by Bruce Power, which starts in Verner at 10:30 a.m. and makes its way to Tented City, finishing near the Main Stage in time for the Opening Ceremony at noon.
Among the dignitaries expected to take part in the Opening Ceremony, as well as the VIP Plowing demonstration at 2 p.m., are Premier Doug Ford, Leader of the Official Opposition (NDP) Andrea Horwath, John Fraser for the Liberal Party and Green Party Leader Mike Schreiner.
Not interested in politics? Drop by the Hydro One Education Centre at noon for the Pumpkin Launching Competition presented by West Ferris Secondary School. While there, spend some time at the various hands-on activities (offered throughout each day of the IPM).
There’s live music happening on the Main Stage, Ontario Mutuals Stage and in the Final Furrow Lounge from 1 to 5 p.m., along with presentations in the Lifestyles Tent from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Don’t miss the Canadian Cowgirls precision drill team at the RAM Rodeo Ring, beginning at 1 p.m.
The BMO Plowing Competition gets underway at 9:30 and 11 a.m., with Horse Plowing at 10 a.m.
Wondering what all the fuss is in the sky above Tented City? Well, the Skyhawks Canadian Armed Forces parachute team will be doing a couple of practice jumps for Wednesday’s demonstration (set for between noon and 12:30 p.m.).
The West Coast Lumberjack Show, located along West Nipissing Avenue, will have performances at1 and 3:30 p.m.
