Take Part in the Quilt Competition

Five categories; prize money up for grabs

It’s time to put your quilting abilities to the test and take part in the IPM 2020 Quilt Competition. In addition to bragging rights, there’s prize money up for grabs in five categories, including one specifically for youths. Categories are:

Full-sized Quilt – Original Interpretation of quilting. Hand or machine quilted. Minimum perimeter of 320 inches (812.8 cm).

Lap Quilt – Original interpretation of quilting. Hand or machine quilted. Minimum perimeter of 200 inches (508 cm), with a maximum perimeter of 320 inches (812.8 cm).

Miniature Quilt – Must be a true replica of a full quilt. No restrictions on technique. Hand or machine quilted. Maximum perimeter of 96 inches (243.8 cm).

Wall Hanging Quilt – Original interpretation of quilting. Machine or hand quilted. Anything larger than 96 inches (243.8 cm) to a maximum of 200 inches (508 cm).

Youth – Quilt-maker must be age 18 or younger by Dec. 31, 2020. No entry fee. No restrictions on size or technique. Hand or machine quilted.

In the case of the first four categories, there is a $10 registration fee. Prizes will be awarded for First ($200), Second ($125) and Third ($75).

Prize money in the Youth category is $100 for First, $75 for Second and $50 for Third. There is no entry fee.

Entry forms must be submitted by September 15, 2020. Deadline for quilt delivery is October 13, 2020.

Quilts will be put on display during IPM 2020, which runs October 14 to 17. Visitor voting will run from Wednesday, October 14 to Friday, October 16 with winners announced on Saturday, October 17. Following the IPM, quilts will be returned to their submitter.

1. Submit 1 entry form per quilt and $10.00 entry fee per individual (except the youth class). Entry fees are non-refundable. Both Form and Fee must be received by September 15, 2020.
2. Youth (under 18 years of age by December 31, 2020) may enter any category without an entry fee.
3. Entries must be entirely the work of the exhibitor, with the exception of the actual quilting.
4. Maximum entries per person limited to eight.
5. Appropriate credit must be provided on entry form for any design, inspiration, source (author, teacher, book, pattern etc.) as per copyright rules.
6. Machine quilting includes domestic, long arm and computerized machine quilting.
7. Entries must meet the specifications of the category in which they are entered. Quilt committee will not change categories.
8. All Quilts must have a 4-inch hanging sleeve.
9. Judging will be a Viewers’ Choice ballot running October 14-16, 2020. Winners will be announced October 17, 2020. Decisions of the Quilt Committee are final.
10. Quilt entries will be received Tuesday, October 13, 2020 from 7 to 11 a.m. at Lindsay Exhibition Grounds (354 Angeline St S, Lindsay, ON) inside the Commonwell Building. All quilts will be displayed under plastic for protection.
11. The Quilt Committee can assume no responsibility for lost, late, or misdirected entries or any damages occurring in transit or during the IPM 2020.
12. While the IPM insurance policy provides basic coverage for all entries while in the possession of the Quilt Committee it is recommended that exhibitors consult their own insurance policies to ensure sufficient coverage are in place.
13. Pick up of your Quilts will be Saturday, October 17, 2020 after 6 p.m.
14. Prizes must be accepted as awarded and are subject to change without notice and may be awarded in cash or cheque.
